India is reeling under the second wave of coronavirus that has hit the nation and for the first time the COVID-19 cases have crossed the 1 lakh mark.
103,558 fresh cases were recorded on Sunday thus, making India the only country after the US to hit the grim milestone of 1 lakh cases per day. Maharashtra contributed the largest number of cases as 57,074 people tested positive for coronavirus.
The Sunday numbers broke the previous peak record of 98,795 cases recorded on September 17, 2020. PM Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting to review the situation. The Health Ministry has stated that eight states account for 81.42 per cent of infection in the last 24 hours. The state government of Maharashtra has also imposed a strict night curfew.
