Queen Elizabeth II’s husband Prince Philip passed away on Friday at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh was 99.

As he left for his heavenly abode the flags at Buckingham Palace were lowered to half mast. The palace issued a statement, which reads, “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband.” The Westminster Abbey rang its tenor bell 99 times to honour each year of his life.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his grief on the passing of Prince Philip. He wrote, “My thoughts are with the British people and the Royal Family on the passing away of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He had a distinguished career in the military and was at the forefront of many community service initiatives. May his soul rest in peace.”

While several people gathered around Windsor Castle to pay their tributes, the British government has urged its citizens to not throng the palace due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Prime Minister of United Kingdom Boris Johnson also mourned his demise and thanked him on behalf of the nation for his service to the United Kiddom.
