India’s Mirabai Chanu made the country proud as she won the silver medal in the women’s 49 kilo weightlifting at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Mirabai Chanu opened the account for India as she lifted a total of 202kg (87kg+115kg). It was a moment of great pride for the sportswoman, as in the 2016 Olympics she couldn’t log even a single legitimate lift.
PM Narendra Modi also congratulated her writing, “Could not have asked for a happier start to @Tokyo2020! India is elated by @mirabai_chanu’s stupendous performance. Congratulations to her for winning the Silver medal in weightlifting. Her success motivates every Indian. #Cheer4India #Tokyo2020.”
China’s Hou Zhihui won the gold, while Aisah Windy Cantika of Indonesia stood third.
